Golden Soursop (Annona muricata)
Super rare and only limited stock!
Soursop is an oval, heart-shaped or oblong fruit that has a deep green skin with many short, fleshy spines. The flesh is white, juicy and aromatic with a cottonlike texture. Embedded with many brown seeds, it has a flavour like pineapple and mango. The tropical fruit is often eaten raw, or it can be incorporated into drinks, sorbet/ice cream, jellies and jams or candies.
The Golden Soursop is a new breed of Guabana’s family found in Australia. A super rare variety and only a handful of people are growing them overseas, let alone in NZ. The fruit is rather large can grow up to 10kg. The taste of fruit is believe to be super creamy, a non-gritty, low seed count, a combination of sweet and tangy pineapples, mango, American paw paw and interesting enough with a hint of strawberry. The Golden Soursop has more of a sweet tone to it compared to the common variety. A must have collection for every NZ Exotic Plant Enthusiast. We can confidently say it’s the best tasting soursop available in the market.
In tropical conditions it grows vigorously and seedling trees will fruit within 2-3 years. In NZ expect to double that time. In the subtropics it requires substantial protection from cold winds and will not tolerate frosts. The tree prefers deep well drained semi-dry soil.
The fruit is heart-shaped with a rough green skin and soft fleshy spines. The fresh meaty flesh is juicy and slightly acid producing a rich creamy thirst quenching juice. consistency.
Soursop trees will turn any space into a tropical getaway indoors or out. This low maintenance tree is perfect for containers. If you live in an area that gets too cold for this tree simply place it in a pot and bring it indoors once the weather starts to get cold.
