White Mulberry (Morus Alba)

White mulberry is mainly cultivated for its edible fruits and they tasted absolutely delicious! The white berries are large and juicy, with a good balance of sweetness and tartness. 

The ripe fruit contains about 9% sugar, with malic and citric acid. Berries can be eaten raw or dried, or used in pies, tarts, puddings, conserves, jams, or sweetened and pureed as a sauce; slightly unripe fruit is best for pies and tarts. The fruit is sometimes pounded to a fine powder and mixed with the flour for bread. They can be blended with other fruits like pears and apples . 

Plant Care  

• Soil: Tolerant of a wide range of soil types but prefers well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of 5.5 to 7.5.
• Watering: Water moderately; more frequently during dry periods.
• Temperature: Hardy to -25°C; grows best in temperatures between 15°C and 30°C.
• Light: Full sun to partial shade.
• Fertilising: Use a balanced NPK fertilizer like 10-10-10 in early spring.
• Pruning: Prune in late winter to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
• Mulching: Mulch to maintain soil moisture and temperature.
• Pest Control: Prone to pests like aphids and whiteflies; use natural predators or appropriate pesticides.
• Flowering and Fruiting: Produces small, inconspicuous flowers followed by edible white fruits that are sweet and nutritious.
• Potting: Suitable for container growing, although fruit production is better in the ground.
• Feeding Regime: Annual fertilisation with additional compost application can enhance growth and fruit production.
