Fijian Red Papaya (Carica papaya)
Fiji Red papaya comes from foundation seed of Solo sunrise developed by the University of Hawaii Seed Lab. The fruit is sweet, and non astringent really pleasant tasting variety of papaya. In the right conditions it will fruit between 12-15 months.
‘Fiji Red’ has a freckled greenish-yellow skin that turns yellow as the fruit ripens, but inside is a juicy, dramatic red-orange colour flesh.
The fruit is sweet and aromatic, weighted between 400-600g each.

Full Sun. Warm, sheltered position with plenty of sun for warmth in winter. |

Water |
Need a lot of watering especially during summer time. Hate wet feet. Reasonably drought tolerant. |

Soil |
Best growth on well drained sandy loam. Not suitable for container growing. |

Fertiliser |
Regular fertiliser applications with a balanced, all-purpose fertiliser helps support proper papaya tree growth and fruit development. For the best results, use an NPK 14-14-14 product starting in the third month after planting. Use120g of NPK 14-14-14 per papaya tree, once every four weeks. |

Wind |
Avoid high wind area, during flowering season may need protection cover to allow the fruit to set. |

Frost |
Can tolerate cool weather but not frost. Need covering in winter, especially the first year. |
|
Fruiting |
In the right conditions it will fruit between 12-15 months. |
