Wiki Woo Casimiroa (Casimiroa edulis)

An excellent variety of Casimiroa (yellow flesh) smooth, aromatic, creamy and really the best tasting casimiroas we have ever tasted. The plants are grown from a reliable seed sourced locally in NZ.

Wonderful fruit the size of an apple with a thin green skin. The pulp is delicious, creamy and smooth, the flavour is sweet and rich. Generally fruit is mature if it comes easily from the tree with a gentle twist, changes to a lighter colour and is slightly soft to touch. Handle gently as they bruise easily. Store in a cool spot and eat within a few days of ripening.

The trees are prolific fruiters, hardy to some frost, long lived, large and spreading in habit. Best for being pruned. Our plants are 14+ months old

Plant Care

  • Soil: Grows best in well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter, pH 6.0 to 8.0.
  • Watering: Requires consistent moisture, especially during the dry season.
  • Temperature: Suitable for subtropical climates; temperature range from 0°C to 35°C.
  • Light: Prefers full sun but tolerates partial shade.
  • Fertilising: Fertilise with a balanced NPK like 10-10-10 in spring and mid-summer.
  • Pruning: Annual pruning to remove old growth and maintain tree shape.
  • Mulching: Mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
  • Pest Control: Generally pest-resistant; occasionally monitor for aphids and scale insects.
  • Flowering and Fruiting: Flowers are small, white; fruit ripens to a yellow or orange, soft when fully ripe.
  • Potting: Suitable for potting in initial years; requires transplanting as the tree matures.
  • Feeding Regime: Regular applications of balanced fertilizer and occasional organic matter.
