Rollinia Meringue (Rollinia deliciosa)

* Delivery February 2024
As the name suggests, Rollinia Meringue Pie is incredibly tasty. It's flavour is often likened to lemon meringue pie, a description that while accurate, does not do this fruit justice. It is very sweet and creamy, and has a refreshing, lemon-like flavour, but it also contains more nuanced tropical notes like banana, pineapple, and coconut.

There are recipes for Rollinia-based sauces, flans, ice creams, and souffles.

Despite its vibrant, prickly appearance, this fruit is fragile and fleeting. Its spikes will turn black as it ages and when it’s handled.

An ideal Rollinia is vibrant yellow and yields to gentle pressure. Blackness on the tips of its spikes is okay, but if the rest of the fruit has dark spots, it should be avoided.

Suitable for container growing.

  • Fertilising: Fertilise every three months with a balanced NPK such as 10-10-10.
  • Pruning: Light pruning to remove unhealthy branches and to facilitate air circulation.
  • Mulching: Mulch to retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth.
  • Pest Control: Monitor for common pests and diseases, treating them as needed.
  • Flowering and Fruiting: Produces creamy white flowers that develop into large, spherical fruits with a bumpy surface.
  • Potting: Suitable for large pots, but best performance is in the ground.\
  • Feeding Regime: Regular applications of balanced NPK fertilizer enhance growth and fruit production.
