Medjool dates are a variety of date enjoyed for their natural sweetness. They’re larger, darker, and more caramel-like in taste than other common types of dates. Many people refer to Medjool Dates, which are native to Morocco as “the king of dates”.

They have been dubbed "nature's candy" for having a semi-soft flesh that is similar in texture and taste to delicious, chewy caramel.

Plant Care

• Soil: Prefers deep, sandy loam soils with good drainage, pH 6.0 to 8.0.
• Watering: Requires regular deep watering to develop a strong root system, reduce frequency in cooler months.
• Temperature: Best in hot, dry climates, can tolerate temperatures up to 40°C.
• Light: Full sun for maximum fruit production.
• Fertilising: High potassium fertilizer is beneficial, particularly during the fruiting season.
• Pruning: Prune to remove dead or damaged fronds and to manage plant size.
• Mulching: Mulch to keep roots cool and conserve soil moisture.
• Pest Control: Watch for pests such as date palm spider mites; manage with appropriate treatments.
• Flowering and Fruiting: Male and female flowers on separate plants; pollination required for fruit, which ripens in late summer to fall.
• Potting: Not typically suitable for potting due to size and root system requirements
• Feeding Regime: Regular feeding with a high potassium fertilizer during the growing season supports healthy fruit development. Supplement with nitrogen-based fertilizers early in the season to promote vigorous growth.
