Red Dragonfruit (Hylocereus Costaricensis)

Expected Delivery date late October/November 2023
All our Dragonfruit plants and cuttings are from matured and fruiting mother plants aged between 4 to 7 years. They are healthy, strong and well established.

Our rooted plant in a pot is also very well established. Red Dragonfruit, also known as pitaya, is a tropical fruit in the cactus family. Red Dragonfruit have a brilliant crimson flesh with small edible seeds. The red variety have a very sweet, juicy interior with a kiwi-like texture that melts in the mouth.

The flowers of the Dragonfruit are some of the most unique and strange looking flowers in the world, not to mention some of the biggest! They can reach a diameter of up to 25cm and are about 30cm in length. The flowers themselves only open up for one night and give off a beautiful exotic and fruity scent.

Small - 15cm -30cm
Medium - 30cm-50cm
Large - 50+cm
Extra Large - 1m +

Plant Care

Light

Direct sun light

Water

Avoid excess watering. Only water once or twice a week during summer.  During winter time just water as needed or when the topsoil is dry to touch

Soil

Well-draining soil. Prefers slightly acidic soil, pH between 6-7 is ideal. Sandy soil is the best option

Fertilizer

Once a month during growing season. On winter stop feeding completely

Wind

Keep away from strong wind. Plants need staking to hold branches

Frost

Will tolerate light frost when established

Fruiting

Flowering may begin as little as 6 to 8 months, although container-grown plants may take up to two years to bear fruit. Mature plant will produce 4-6 fruiting cycles a year
