Cashew Nut (Anacardium Occidentale)

Super rare and limited stock for this unbelievable price! This is a Cashew Nut Plant with sweet Red Apple. The cashew seeds itself are fatter and the nuts have higher content of minerals, protein and fatty acids. The Red Apple tastes delicious almost similar to a sweet and soft Guava flesh. The Red Apple are often turn into beverages like juices, wines and other alcoholic drink.

One of the rarest and hardest to source and propagate, the Cashew Nut is one of those top 10 plants that every Plant Enthusiast needs to have. They grow with little care possible in hot country like Asia but will need a warm climate here to thrive. Really beautiful specimen plant in the garden and they grow very fast. The young shoot is used traditionally used to treat stomach ache and it taste great as a salad! Cashew nut trees are attractive trees with large leaves and pretty, pink flowers.  Cashews, as you know them, are nuts. But the cashew nut is not the only fruit of the cashew trees. Or rather, the cashew nut is only a part of the cashew fruit.

The other part is called the cashew apple. (Although pear would suit it much better.) And if I wanted to be super accurate then I'd have to point out that the cashew apple is actually the swollen stem of the fruit.

Plant Care

  • Soil: Prefers sandy, well-drained soils with a pH of 5.0 to 6.5.
  • Watering: Water moderately; drought-tolerant once established but benefits from regular moisture during the fruiting season.
  • Temperature: Best between 20°C and 30°C.
  • Light: Requires full sun.
  • Fertilising: Use a balanced NPK fertilizer like 10-10-10 at the beginning of the growing season.
  • Pruning: Prune to remove dead or diseased wood and to shape the tree for better air circulation and sunlight penetration.
  • Mulching: Apply organic mulch to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Pest Control: Monitor for the cashew nut borer and treat with appropriate insecticides when necessary.
  • Flowering and Fruiting: Produces a flowering spike followed by the cashew apple and nut; harvest when the cashew apples turn pink or red.
  • Potting: Can be grown in large containers initially but requires transplanting as it grows.
  • Feeding Regime: Light feeding with a balanced NPK enhances growth and nut production.

We ship our plants and garden supplies throughout New Zealand. Due to the increased costs of shipping and packaging, we now apply a minimal delivery charge. After offering free shipping for three consecutive years, we find it necessary to adjust this policy to align with current market conditions. However, we have lowered our prices to help offset this change.

Please note, we do not ship plants or garden supplies internationally from New Zealand. We do export plants and tissue culture materials from our overseas nursery, which requires a minimum order. Please contact us at to discuss your specific requirements.

Additional Delivery Information

  • We dispatch our plants year-round, as most are shipped with soil. During the winter months, we closely monitor weather conditions and may temporarily delay shipments if the weather is particularly severe. Our packing process includes adding insulation when necessary to protect the plants against temperature extremes.
  • In summer, we ensure that plants are thoroughly watered before they leave our nursery. Occasionally, we may need to ship plants bare-rooted, particularly when they cannot be comfortably re-potted into smaller packaging for shipping. We will always discuss this with you in advance if your plant needs to be shipped in this manner.
  • It's important to note that shipping can be a stressful experience for plants, often due to spending several days in a dark, confined space. While most plants withstand this with little to no stress, some may experience leaf drop. However, they generally recover quickly with some additional care, including proper watering and gradual reintroduction to light after arrival.
