Bonanza Banana (Musa)
Honduran hybrid banana, excellent tasting, sweet and creamy. 3 - 3.5 m high. More cold and wind tolerant and produces higher quality fruit in sub-tropical conditions. Highly recommended and well suited to growing in NZ in warmer frost free areas. All our Bonanza banana plants are from the water suckers so their new leaves look a bit funny but they are they are the best type to have and will fruit faster.
Small - to 0.5m
Medium - up to 1m
Large -1-1.5m
X Large - 1.5m +
Plant Care
Light |
Most types of banana plants prefer to grow in full sun meaning at least six hours of direct sunlight most days. Some varieties can scorch easily and will do better in partial shade. |
Water |
Need a lot of water and plenty of moisture in the air. They do best when planted in groups fairly close together, as this helps to retain moisture in the leaves. Water regularly to make sure the soil stays evenly moist but not soggy. Avoid overwatering in winter which can cause root rot. |
Soil |
Well drained fertile soil and slightly acidic. They typically have poor tolerance for salt in the soil. |
Fertilizer |
Apply a balanced fertilizer regularly throughout the growing season. Also, mix compost into the soil annually to raise the level of organic matter. |
Wind |
Slightly sensitive to wind except for some varieties like the Edible Honduran and the Australian Hybrid. |
Frost |
Frost tender, except for some varieties like the Edible Honduran and the Australian Hybrid. |
Fruiting |
10-15 months of growing time |
Great service. Plants arrived in perfect healthy condition.
Thank you so much
