Insulin plant (Costus Igneus) 

The insulin plant is popularly known as the spiral flag and fiery costus. It belongs to the family of Cactaceae. The native of this plant is central America. This herb is widely used in Ayuverdic and herbal medicine. It is primarily used in the treatment of diabetes because it has anti-diabetic properties. Yes, you’ve read it right! You can kiss goodbye to the side-effects of diabetes with a simple, green plant! Too good to be true, right? Need regular watering during summer. Every 2-3 days during winter

Rich and moist soil and free draining.

Fertiliser

Organic fertiliser is preferred once yearly around spring. Use liquid fertiliser like seaweed about every 2 months. Do not use fertilizer during winter month.

Does not like wind as they are quite spindly

Hardy. Perennials plant

Flowering

Beautiful orange flowers started around autumn

Pruning

Not necessary as leaves will die off during winter time usually and come back again around spring time.
