Queen Pineapple (Ananas comosus)
Queen pineapples are dark-yellow with a small core. The Queen pineapple has a pleasant aroma and flavour, but does not can well. Instead, they're better eaten fresh. Queen pineapples are more tolerant of diseases and cold temperatures than other types of pineapple.
Plant Care
Light |
Full sun or part shade. Keep them outdoors under shelter in extreme heat conditions. |
Water
|
Does not need regular watering. It’s important to have a good drainage. More regular watering during summer. |
Soil |
It grows in all soil types, preferably in light and well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. pH 4.5-7 is ideal. |
Fertiliser |
Take up a lot of their nutrition through their leaves, and the first few months after planting they rely only on their leaves. Use diluted liquid fertilisers like fish emulsion or seaweed extract onto the pineapple plant and the surrounding soil. Or use pelleted chicken manure - sprinkle it on the soil very close to the base of the pineapple plant and make sure a bit falls into the bottom leaves. |
Wind |
Wind tolerant when small; keep it partly covered from strong wind. |
Frost |
Need protection from frost. |
Fruiting |
These are indication only, the actual result relies on location, care and the size of plants at time of planting. If growing indoor or inside the greenhouse or polytunnel, result will improved. Crown - from 2 years. |
Very happy with plant although thought may have come with more info on how to care for it!
While I have been on website I’m still a little unsure of care of plant. Happy with plant and service though
Pineapples arrived promptly very impressed with the packaging and plants are growing well on heat pad until we get past the frosts.
