Caution: From 1 September 2022, it is not permitted to propagate, distribute, release or sell guava plants within the Auckland region. Exceptions apply if you are transferring an existing plant on your land to another location within the boundaries of the same property. As a result, all of our guava plants are being shipped from our nursery in Northland and we will not be able to sell or deliver the plant to addresses in the Auckland region.
Soil: This guava thrives in well-draining soil with a pH ranging from 5 to 7. Adding organic compost can enrich the soil and support healthy growth.
Light: The plant prefers full sunlight but can tolerate partial shade. Ideally, it should receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal fruiting.
Temperature: Warm climates suit it best, with temperatures ranging between 20°C to 28°C. It’s not frost-tolerant, so protection or indoor cultivation is necessary in colder regions.
Watering: Regular, deep watering is essential, especially during the growing and fruiting seasons. However, the soil should be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.
Fertilizing: A balanced, slow-release fertilizer applied during the growing season supports lush growth and fruitful harvests. Additional potassium can enhance fruit quality.
Pruning: Pruning is done to remove dead or diseased branches, encourage growth, and maintain shape. It’s best performed after the fruiting season.
Flowering and Fruiting: The guava flowers are white and have a sweet, mild fragrance. Fruit typically follows flowering after several months. Regular care and favorable conditions are key to encouraging a bountiful harvest of large, sweet, pink-fleshed fruits.
