Calamansi

2+ years old Air Layered from fruiting mother plant. Most plants has fruited or ready to fruit now.

This is the real Asian calamansi or Filipino Citrus plant. They are slightly different than the cross bred calamansi and has a distinguished smell and an intense lime taste. Plants are well established most already producing flowers/fruit at the moment.

Calamansi is a small citrus fruit, with a bright orange flesh and a peel that goes from green to orange as it ripens. It tastes sour with a hint of sweetness, like a mix between a lime and a mandarin. It has a distinctive aroma – citrusy and floral.

One of the most popular citrus and widely used in Asian cuisine, Calamansi can be found in fruit juices, and as a garnish for other well-known meals in Asian cuisine.

Air layered calamansi plants will produce fruit much earlier than the seedling grown equivalent.

Plant Care

Light

Full sun, but could tolerate partial shade

Water

Need regular watering during summer.

Soil

Well drain and moist soil they don’t like wet feet

Fertilizer

A lot of citrus fertiliser. Nitrogen hungry plant

Wind

Avoid high wind to prevent flowers drop.

Frost

Drought tolerant and can stand up to -2c for a period. Covering young trees in winter against frost may be required.

Flowering and set fruit throughout Spring to summer. If they are being well look after they produce fruit all year long.

Pruning

Not necessary as leaves might die off during winter time usually and come back again around spring time. Just trim any dead branch.

Just what I was looking for in NZ

I stumbled upon this website by chance and was surprised by how many tropical plants are available here in NZ.
Got this Calamansi plant in Mar/23 and it's Sep/23 now. I've kept her inside in a north facing window. She hasn't grown much in winter but she's budding & fruiting her heart out.
An amazing plant, wish I could buy more from Exotica but in already out of space 🙂
Many thanks 🙏

This calamansi is awesome

Looks like a strong, healthy plant, covered in fruit and flowers already. Potted into a 50l pot with potting mix and pumice for drainage.

Awesome

Our calamansi tree arrived in brilliant packaging and the quality of the tree was great - lush green and already laden with fruit.
