Clusters of woolly white perfumed flowers in winter followed by yellow round/oval juicy fruit. The skin is smooth and slightly hairy. Excellent flavour with a good balance between acid and sweetness. The flesh is firm and has apricot/plum flavour. Each fruit contains 2-8 largest brown seeds. Trees can be biennial bearing.
Great in a container for the smaller garden, or as a specimen tree in the large garden. The round headed trees can be used to shade a patio. Loquats also make attractive espaliers.

Extreme summer heat is detrimental but likes full sun or partial shade
A thirsty plant especially during spring-autumn
Plant in well-drained fertile soil with access to plenty of moisture during the growing season. Prefer good drainage, can handle periods of moderately wet soil or drought
Moderately nutrient hungry, over feeding will cause a reduction in flowering. Once established, a general fertiliser once a year in late summer is adequate
Fairly wind and salt tolerant
Hardy to -10c
3-4 years from planting
Prune only to maintain desired shape and open the internal growth to allow light in. Prune after harvesting before summer growth. Can prune so height is kept at a manageable size but also can be espaliered
