We are so happy to be able to offer a Grafted Mountain Soursop plant from a NZ fruiting mother plant!! The number of this plants is very limited. If you are into medicinal exotic fruiting plant, Mountain Soursop can be the answer.

The taste of this fruit is a combination of banana, pineapple and strawberry. With yellow flesh and slightly fibrous, they make delicious eating fruit when firm ripe and blend into smoothies. They are fast grower, and fruit as early as 2-3 years. What is more special is that Mountain Soursop is also draught and cold tolerant.

Mountain soursop has several traditional medicinal uses in South American and the Caribbean. Fruit, seeds, bark, leaves, and roots have all been used to treat intestinal parasites, coughs (including asthma and bronchitis), inflammation, diabetes, and hypertension. Research on extracts has recognized antiviral, anti-parasitic, anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-hyperglycemic properties. It has also been used as an anti-depressant and at least one study has found it effective against multi-drug resistant cancer cells.

Traditional uses and benefits of Mountain Soursop

  • Decoction of the leaves is drunk in the evening before retiring for its calming effect on the nerves and sedative effect which promotes sleep.
  • Leaves are also used to treat fever and headache.
  • Fruit, seeds, bark, leaves, and roots have all been used to treat intestinal parasites, coughs (including asthma and bronchitis), inflammation, diabetes, and hypertension, among many uses.
  • Research on extracts has documented antiviral, anti-parasitic, anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-hyperglycemic properties.
  • It has also been used as an anti-depressant.
  • An infusion of the leaves have some pain-relieving qualities for pregnant women.

Plant Care

  • Soil: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
  • Watering: Regular watering is needed, especially during dry spells. Ensure adequate drainage to avoid waterlogging.
  • Temperature: Thrives in warm, tropical climates. Not frost tolerant.
  • Light: Does best in full sunlight but can tolerate partial shade.
  • Fertilising: Use a balanced fertiliser such as 10-10-10 NPK ratio, particularly during the growing season to support fruiting.
  • Pruning: Prune to remove dead or crossing branches and to maintain size and shape.
  • Mulching: Apply organic mulch to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Flowering & Fruiting: Flowers are followed by large fruits; it can take several years before it starts fruiting when grown from seed.
  • Potting: Suitable for large containers with proper drainage.
  • Fertilising Regime: Feed monthly during the growing season and reduce during the dormant period.
